The PhET Interactive Simulations Project: Working to Increase Access to Interactive STEM Simulations [Part 2 of 2]

by Taliesin L. Smith & Emily B. Moore

The PhET Interactive Simulations project has created over 150 interactive science and mathematics simulations (sims) for learning STEM topics – science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. These sims are available online for free from the PhET website. This article is the second of a two-part series on accessibility of the PhET simulations. In the first article of this series (Moore, 2016), we introduced the PhET sims and how they can support student engagement. In this second article, we highlight sim features that can support use by students with diverse needs, and introduce new features designed to support students with disabilities. We also discuss topics to consider when using accessible simulations in lesson plans.
